Deborah Hung’s lab at the Broad Institute and MGH is seeking applicants for a two-year research technician position. The main project will focus on developing single-cell genomic methodologies for RNA sequencing in bacteria (adapting existing
methodologies for eukaryotes developed at the Broad), with applications towards phenotypic heterogeneity in antibiotic response and resistance. The position will also offer the opportunity to join an existing multidisciplinary project on the development of
molecular diagnostics for rapid antibiotic susceptibility testing of bacteria. Both projects emphasize molecular and genomic microbiology techniques and offer opportunities for collaboration with microfluidics labs and computational biologists.

The position promotes the development of experimental, analytical, and presentation skills in the context of two well-defined, ongoing projects relating to infectious disease. The candidate will carry out bench-level research in close partnership with an academic
physician-scientist trainee and will contribute to the overall research environment through presentations and contributions to publications. Motivation, flexibility, and ability to work both independently and in collaborative teams are valued assets. Successful
candidates will gain experience and knowledge to facilitate graduate or medical school admission. Past candidates in this position have applied successfully to both.

Requirements:
• Preferred duration of the position is 2 years
• Education: Bachelor’s degree
• Experience: 1-4 years of undergraduate research experience
• Skills and Abilities: Experience in current molecular biology techniques. Experience in computational biology, microbiology, and/or tissue culture are assets.
• Behaviors: Applicants should be highly motivated to continue their scientific education in graduate and/or medical school. Applicants should be prepared to work independently in a dynamic lab environment. Given the nature of our work (infectious disease),
applicants must also be organized and highly conscientious.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter and CV to Sharon Wong, PhD at sywong@broadinstitute.org and CC Roby Bhattacharyya, MD PhD at rbhatt@broadinstitute.org
