The World of Speech and Hearing<br>
<br>
This course introduces students to scientists, engineers and<br>
clinicians interested in how we communicate through speech and<br>
hearing. Because these mechanisms form the bases for human social<br>
organization, they impact areas including education, entertainment,<br>
engineering, business, medicine and psychology. There will be visits<br>
to sites at MIT, Harvard Medical School, hospitals, and Boston<br>
University, where students will be able to converse with a wide<br>
variety of professionals. Emphasis will be on the personal stories of<br>
people rather than didactic presentations of topics. Subsequent<br>
contacts with specific individuals will be encouraged. The central<br>
theme is that Speech and Hearing is a very broad field with<br>
participants entering from many different disciplines. Opportunities<br>
for future research may emerge.<br>

This will be a non-credit course.<br>
<br>
Classes will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the month of January, 2015. The first meeting will be on Tuesday, January 6 in the Jonathan Allen Room, 36-462, MIT. Find out what this is all about.<br>
