<blockquote type="cite" cite>The Center for Gynepatholgy Research (<a
href="http://web.mit.edu/cgr/">http://web.mit.edu/cgr/</a>) is a
joint MIT-Newton Wellesley Hospital program focused on women's
reproductive health. We are seeking2-3 undergraduate
students to aid with collection of tissue samples from patients
undergoing laproscopic surgery in the Minimally Invasive Gynecological
Surgery center at Newton Wellesley Hospital for a project focused
on understanding the etiology of endometriosis. This opportunity is
appropriate for pre-medical students or others who want exposure to
the clinical/basic science interface. Each week, we identify
appropriate cases from the upcoming surgery list for the following
week, and schedule sample collection. The
requirements for this opportunity are (i) an ability to drive a
ZIPcar under the MIT Zipcar agreement to NWH approximately once per
week (MIT students 18+ with appropriate driving records
are eligible; costs are covered by the project), and some
flexibility in your schedule to accommodate slight shifts in the OR
schedule on the day of surgery and highly varied times of
day each week. Many of the surgeries start early (7:30
am). The project can be volunteer (with invitation to
research meetings) or UROP, and if UROP, an appropriate research
history will be required. The technical contact for this
opportunity is Emily Prentice (MIT Biology 2011; Emily Prentice <<a
href="mailto:eprentic@gmail.com">eprentic@gmail.com</a>>) and the
faculty member is Prof. Griffith. Our clinical
collaborator, Dr. Keith Isaacson, is the current president of the
American Association for Gynecologic Laproscopy and Prof. of OB/Gyb at
HMS, and his partner, Dr Stephanie Morris, is an MIT alum and
also on the HMS faculty.<br>

to become involved.<br>
