This email is to inform you of a new course offering: EC.714,
"D-Lab: Biodiversity". It is a service-learning class
in the D-Lab family of courses. The course description is as
follows, and our flyer is attached.

D-Lab: Biodiversity will explore the relationships between global
biodiversity and community development through case studies, guest
presentations, and experiential activities. In this class,
we'll consider what kinds of projects and programs create
opportunities to generate income and while promoting ecological
conservation, discussing both direct efforts, such
as reforestation and sustainable agriculture, and indirect
efforts, such as development of livelihoods that offer
alternatives to habitat-reducing activities like poaching,
monoculture, over fishing, and deforestation. Students and
community partners will explore ways to collaborate, jointly
identifying community concerns and co-designing potential
solutions to address them sustainably. There will be optional
opportunities for summer travel to work with partner communities.
Enrollment is limited by lottery; please attend the first class
session.

Please feel free to share this with potentially interested students.
Also, please note that the Friday recitation time listed in the
registrar (F 12-3p) will be rescheduled based on student availability
- thus, timing conflicts with the Friday session should not be seen as
a deterrent.

Thanks very much.

Warm regards,
