Dear Colleague,<br>

The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center would like to inform you about
an internship program we are offering during the upcoming academic
year, and encourage your institution to help us notify students about
this opportunity. The Life Sciences Internship Challenge is a
workforce development program focused on enhancing the talent pipeline
for Massachusetts life sciences companies. The program will provide
and fund internships for around 80 students and recent graduates who
are considering career opportunities in the life sciences. Host
companies will commit to providing a dedicated mentor and meaningful
internship opportunity that relates to the academic focus of eligible
students. Studies have shown the value and necessity of providing
students with internships in the field of life sciences, and we hope
that this opportunity to explore a career path will enhance the
studentsí academic training.<br>

The Summer 2011 Internship Challenge was met with extraordinary
success, with 219 students representing 63 different colleges and
universities placed in paid internships at 128 companies across
Massachusetts. The Center will continue to accept applications from
eligible students and organizing them in an online database accessible
through our website. Companies that register with us to host interns
are granted access to review applications and are instructed to
contact students directly for interviews. The Center is offering to
reimburse companies (with 100 or less employees) for intern stipends
of up to $15 per hour for 480 hours ($7,200) for students selected
through the program.<br>

Any student enrolled in a Massachusetts college or university is
eligible to apply, provided that they meet the following eligibility
requirements:<br>

<li>4-year college or university students must have or will
complete(d) at least their sophomore year the semester before the
internship, or have graduated within the past year.
<li>Community college (or 2-year Associate program) students must have
or will complete(d) their Associateís Degree or Certificate or the
equivalent of one yearís course work related to the internship
placement.
<li>Graduate students must be enrolled in a Master's Degree program or
received their Masterís Degree within the past year. PhD candidates
are<i> not</i> eligible.</ul>
