The 2010 MIT Giving Tree is here!
Brighten the holidays for a local child. Please join your
fellow MIT community members in supporting this great MIT holiday
tradition. Through the Giving Tree, you can donate gifts to children
in the Boston and Cambridge area. Each year, over 500 MIT faculty,
staff, students, and partners provide gifts to over 600 children
affiliated with 13 local service agencies. Co-sponsored by the MIT
Public Service Center and the Panhellenic Association and currently in
its 19th year, the Giving Tree allows participants to choose specific
gifts for specific children, making the gift-giving process a more
personalized one for all.

Here's how to participate:
1.) Stop by the MIT Public Service Center (PSC) at 4-104 between
November 22 and December 13 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm).
2.) Pick up a gift label for a child--or choose more than one!
3.) Purchase, wrap, and place the gift label on your gift, and return
it to the PSC in 4-104 NO LATER than 10AM on Tuesday, December
14.

We will also gladly accept your monetary donation if you are unable to
purchase a gift, but want to participate. Questions? Email <a

PSC Grants application deadline
Public Service Center Grants enable student service projects
during the semester and over IAP. They have a rolling deadline, with a
final deadline for travel over IAP of December 2! Turn in your
proposals, and turn your service ideas into action! Expedition
Grants, supported by the Underclassmen Giving Campaign and the Alumni
Association, enable continuing MIT students to travel to an unknown
community and explore solutions to problems. Students have recently
used Expedition Grants to start projects in New Orleans, Mexico, and
Cameroon! Learn more at web.mit.edu/mitpsc/grants and <a

IDEAS and Global Challenge: Submit Your Initial Proposal and
Grant Request for IAP!
IDEAS and Global Challenge are an annual invention and
entrepreneurship competition that support invention as public service
projects (whether innovative service or prototype). If you are
planning to enter this year, the Initial Proposal submission deadlines
occur on the 5th of every month through March. The earlier you get
your proposal in, the more opportunities you will have to get feedback
and strengthen it for your final submission! Submit your Initial
Proposal in December and take advantage of Development Grants
that can help you develop your idea and prepare your final proposal to
the judges. If you're looking for team members, projects to work on
or mentors, head to globalchallenge.mit.edu. Complete directions for
proposal submission are here: <a

MIT undergraduate student project that promotes peace, to be
implemented in the summer of 2011. The aim is to "help
young people launch some immediate initiatives that could bring new
thinking to the prospects for peace in the world." MIT will
select several compelling proposals to send forward, and at least one
is guaranteed to be funded! Think creatively, innovatively, and
entrepreneurially -- this is a chance to formulate and test ideas for
peace. Proposals should be emailed to <a

participation of any partner organizations or people
-- a detailed one-page budget for carrying out the project in summer
2011
If your proposal is selected, we will help you refine it. You
should be available to make final revisions before February 11. See <a
