<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times; font-size: medium; "><p><font size="3" face="Helvetica">Hello,</font></p><p><font size="3" face="Helvetica">The lab of Mark Albers MD PhD, located in the Charlestown Navy Yard MGH facilities, has an opening for a new student member who wishes to gain lab experience either by volunteering or by fulfilling a work study requirement. Our lab (<a href="http://www.mghmind.org/albers" target="_blank">www.mghmind.org/albers</a>) studies the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease by utilizing the mouse olfactory neural circuit to model the disease phenotypes. Since mouse models are our main focus, mouse genetics are central to our experiments. The student will be trained in PCR protocols, mouse handling techniques, and colony management to assist us in our research. Once the student has mastered these skills they will have the opportunity to branch out into other areas and learn other lab skills such as cryosection, vibratome sectioning, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy. and in vivo imaging.</font> <br>
</p><p><font size="3" face="Helvetica">We are looking for a student, preferably a Sophomore, who will spend 8 to 10 hours in the lab per week. Travel time from MIT to the Navy Yard can range from 20 to 30 min each way, this time is not figured into the 8 to 10 hours. We will accept applications from any student that has a strong work ethic, a science background, and a serious desire to learn. </font></p>
