<blockquote type="cite" cite>Shellenberger and Nordhaus, authors of
the famous 2004 article "The Death of Environmentalism,"
will present their vision for a unified, investment and
development-focused national energy future. Their recent book,<i>
Break Through: From the Death of Environmentalism to the Politics of
Possibility</i>, details this message and the roles we can all play in
a renewed "post-environmentalism" that unites human and
environmental interests under a single cohesive platform.<br>
</blockquote>
<blockquote type="cite" cite>Shellenberger and Nordhaus will discuss
their policy proposals, the necessity of a new approach to
environmental problems, and the specific ways in which young people
stand poised to play a major role in the transitions necessary in the
years ahead. They will discuss Breakthrough Generation -- a new youth
initiative targeting the energy and innovation of young progressives
and environmentalists, which is awarding ten $5,000 Fellowships to the
country's top young organizers and thinkers. Interested students

<blockquote type="cite" cite>Reviews of<i> Break Through</i>:<br>
</blockquote>
<blockquote type="cite" cite> <b>"To win, Nordhaus and
Shellenberger persuasively argue, environmentalists must stop
congratulating themselves for their own willingness to confront
inconvenient truths and must focus on building a politics of shared
hope rather than relying on a politics of
fear." </b>--<i>New York Times</i><br>
</blockquote>
<blockquote type="cite" cite><b>"If heeded, Nordhaus and
Shellenberger's call for an optimistic outlook -- embracing economic
dynamism and creative potential -- will surely do more for the
environment than any U.N. report or Nobel
Prize." </b>--<i>Wall Street Journal</i><br>
</blockquote>
<blockquote type="cite" cite><b>"Green groups may carp, but the
truth is the book could turn out to be the best thing to happen to
environmentalism since Rachel Carson's Silent
Spring." --Wired Magazine</b><br>

<blockquote type="cite" cite><b>More about the Breakthrough
Fellowship:</b></blockquote>
<blockquote type="cite" cite><br></blockquote>
<blockquote type="cite" cite>Breakthrough Generation, the youth
initiative of the Breakthrough Institute, is now awarding ten $5,000
Fellowships to the country's top young organizers and
thinkers. We are seeking highly motivated, capable, and
innovative young leaders who want to pursue a campus or local clean
energy project while advancing the larger movement for a $500 billion
federal investment in clean energy to spark an energy revolution and
win on global warming.<br>
</blockquote>
<blockquote type="cite" cite> <br>
</blockquote>
<blockquote type="cite" cite>The Breakthrough Institute, a progressive
think tank directed by Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus, is
working on several fronts - including political candidates,
forward-thinking philanthropists, social change agents, and the youth
climate movement - to advance a major federal investment in the
clean energy economy. We believe that young people today
are uniquely positioned to advance a more powerful movement and wish
to support their efforts.<br>
