Technician (1 Position)<br>
</b>Temporary summer 2006<br>
Colorado State University will hire 1 individual on a temporary basis
to assist ecologist in<font size="-3"> conducting a thorough field
survey of the vertebrate fauna of four Connecticut Army National Guard
(CTARNG) training sites.<br>
</font>Location: s) - The four installations are located in North and
South Central Connecticut and vary between 82 and 1862 acres.<br>
Duration of Employment: Approx. 4 weeks, beginning in late May to
early June, 2006.<br>
Salary: $11.00-15.00 /hr., depending on qualifications. Field vehicles
provided. Housing and stipend provided.<br>
Job Description: Assist with various wildlife monitoring projects.
Specific tasks will include assisting with study site preparation for
trapping and monitoring vertebrate species; mark, sex, age, weigh, and
examine animals for reproductive status; record all required data.
Work is entirely outdoors, consisting of driving four-wheel drive
vehicles over rough roads in remote locations, data collection,
extensive walking, and exposure to extreme weather (heat, dust,
rain).<br>
Qualifications: BS/BA degree in range, botany, biology, ecology,
forestry, or a related field. Applicants with coursework and/or
experience in fish, herpetofauna, bat, and/or small mammal
identification (especially in the region) and vertebrate sampling
methods will also be considered. Familiarity with the local ecology,
ability to identify regional fauna, experience with faunal monitoring
methodology, and ability to work well with others are all desirable.
Applicants must be willing and able to work in and endure hot weather
and occasional thunderstorms, walk several miles a day over rough
terrain, use a compass and topographic maps, and be familiar with
computer operation and data entry. A valid U.S. driver's license is
required.<br>
