The<b> Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation</b> is seeking a
full-time<b> Research Assistant</b> to work in its Biological and
Chemical Weapons Control Program. The Center is a not for profit
organization that conducts research and policy advocacy on issues
related to the proliferation of nuclear, biological and chemical
weapons. The research assistant will work closely with the
Biological and Chemical Weapons Control Program Director and the
Center's Senior Science Fellow. The position will offer time to
pursue an individual research project relevant to biological or
chemical weapons control.<br>

<u>Responsibilities include:<br>

<li><font size="-1">Attending Congressional hearings and participating
in meetings of the biodefense and arms control and non-proliferation
communities</font>
<li><font size="-1">Monitoring legislation relevant to biodefense and
biological and chemical weapons control</font>
<li><font size="-1">Conducting research on various topics related to
biological and chemical weapons, including science and technology,
weapons proliferation and U.S. and international policy</font>
<li><font size="-1">Preparing background reports and issue briefs in
support of policy proposals and initiatives</font>
<li><font size="-1">Assisting in the preparation of press releases and
other materials for public distribution</font>
<li><font size="-1">Helping maintain and update the Program
website</font>
<li><font size="-1">Helping organize meetings and other Program
activities</font></ul>

<u>Qualifications:<br>

<li><font size="-1">Undergraduate or Masters degree (life sciences
strongly preferred, some knowledge of biodefense or biological or
chemical weapons related issues is a plus)</font>
<li><font size="-1">Skilled in research and data analysis
methods</font>
<li><font size="-1">Excellent writing and interpersonal skills,
including an ability to concisely convey complex information</font>
<li><font size="-1">Strong computer skills, including the Microsoft
Office suite of software (knowledge of XHTML and CSS coding a
plus)</font>
<li><font size="-1">An ability to handle multiple projects
simultaneously</font>
<li><font size="-1">An ability to work effectively in groups and
individually</font>
<li><font size="-1">An interest in science and national and
international security policy</font></ul>
