<div>Since BUSA's inception, one of our main activities has been to
host the annual Howard Hughes Memorial Lecture. The day features a
lecture by a distinguished biologist. In 2004 we hosted Nobel Laureate
Dr. Lee Hartwell. In 2002 we hosted Dr. Cori Bargmann, a professor at
University of California at San Francisco and in 2001 we hosted Nobel
Laureate Dr. David Baltimore, President of the California Institute of
Technology.<br>

Professor Phillip A. Sharp is Founding Director of the McGovern
Institute at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was
named Institute Professor in 1999. Dr. Sharp has authored over 300
scientific papers and serves on many scientific advisory
boards/committees, including the National Cancer Instituteís
Advisory Board, which he chaired for two years (2000-2002), the Sloan
Foundation Board of Trustees, and the Ludwig Institute for
Cancer Research<i>.<br>

</i>Dr. Sharp is co-founder of Biogen, Inc., 1978, Chairman of the
Scientific Board (to 2002) and Member of the Board of Directors.
He is also co-founder of Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (2002) where he
serves as Chairman of the ScientificBoard and is a member of the
companyís Board of Directors.<br>
