----------------------------------------------------------<br><br>(1) Fall Activities Midway Booth Assignments<br><br>Fall Activities Midway assignments are now available. A map and a full list of assignments and performance times can be found here: <<a href="http://web.mit.edu/asa/publicity/midway.html">http://web.mit.edu/asa/publicity/midway.html</a>>. If you would like to sign up for the waitlist for a booth, the form is available at <<a href="http://web.mit.edu/asa/publicity/midway.html">http://web.mit.edu/asa/publicity/midway.html</a>>.<br>
<br>Due to a miscommunication, an incorrect time was announced for the Midway. The Midway will take place from *<b>2:30pm to 4:30pm</b>* this Friday, August 29. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.<br><br>
Groups may arrive to set up beginning at 1:30pm, and you must check in by 2:10, or your table may be re-allocated to a group on the waitlist. Groups that check in late may be fined $25 and may forfeit their table if there is a waiting list.<br>
<br>If your group can no longer attend or perform at the Midway, please let us know via email at <<a href="mailto:asa-midway@mit.edu">asa-midway@mit.edu</a>> as soon as possible, at least 24 hours in advance. Failure to cancel prior to 24 hours will result in a $50 fine; failure to cancel by the start of check-in will result in a $75 fine. Groups whose booths are not staffed at any point during the Midway, including leaving early, may be fined up to $25.<br>
<br>Please remember that no external speakers may be used at the booths. The ASA board reserves the right to request that volume be reduced or sound turned off if it becomes a problem for neighboring groups or performances. For fire safety reasons, please remember to stay at or by your booth at all times (within arms reach). Do not block any entrances or aisles or hand out flyers at the doorway. Violations of these rules may be cause for a fine of up to $50, depending on the infraction.<br>
<br>In addition, if your group is bringing large items, doing demonstrations, or using electricity for anything other than laptops or other displays, make sure you review the safety guidelines at <<a href="https://ehs.mit.edu/site/content/types-events-activities-need-safety-plan">https://ehs.mit.edu/site/content/types-events-activities-need-safety-plan</a>>, and, if necessary, send a description of your activity to <<a href="mailto:safe-project@mit.edu">safe-project@mit.edu</a>> so they can suggest tips to improve safety.<br>
<br>----------------------------------------------------------<br><br>(2) Clarification Regarding New Permitting for Barbecue Pits<br><br>The last asa-official email included information about new permitting requirements for barbecue events. There was some confusion, so we would like to clarify: at present these rules only apply to events with catered food, where food will be sold, or to which the public is invited. Groups can continue to hold other barbecue events as in the past; for those specific types of events, groups should contact Katie Blass <<a href="mailto:kblass@mit.edu">kblass@mit.edu</a>> to find out what permits they may need.</div>
