| About ChinaCare | |
|
Since the implementation of the One-Child Policy, the Chinese society has been burdened by an increasing population of orphans, who were abandoned by their family due to socioeconomic hardships. While many state-funded orphanages have been built over the years to try to alleviate this problem, these orphanages are usually understaffed and their conditions unpleasant... resources scarce, etc... especially in cases of taking care of special-needs or disabled children. Deeply troubled by the plight of China's special-needs orphans, Matthew Dalio, Harvard '06, established the China Care Foundation in 2000 to address the suffering of these neglected children. There are now chapters at most of the Ivy League colleges and other large campuses across the United States. Some high schools also have a sub-chapter. Boston is home to the chapters at Harvard (largest and oldest), Tufts, Northeastern, and now MIT! To see the collection of prior postings to the list, visit the ChinaCare Archives.
